The French forests cannot attend to the high demand of oak at present and the French cooperages are obliged to import big quantities of wood of the forests of the Carpathians and the Balkans. We believe that the future of the oak in Europe is in this zone because of the quantity and quality. In Eastern Europe they grow both species of European oak, the Quercus Robur or Quercus Petraea. Both cooperages are lost in the mountains and make the casks in a totally handcrafted way, using the wisdom transmitted from generation to generation. |
